Great Falls, Virginia interior design: a 10,000-square-foot home originally built in 2003 in a neo–French Normandy style. The clients first asked me to come down and give a few ideas. It grew into a full renovation across 34 rooms. We gut-renovated six bathrooms and two kitchens, redecorated two powder rooms, and carried the work through the guest house, basement, and theater.

The bones were neoclassical, so the goal was to keep that framework and make it current. Every room had to earn its place. The family are art collectors with an inherited collection including Keith Haring, Andy Warhol, and Harry Bertoia, and I wanted those pieces to sit naturally in each room. The aesthetic mixes mid-century elements with Art Deco touches and 70s chic. Lavish and fun, but built for a young family with two dogs and their daily life.
